Germany 2003 - Munich

I visited the city of Munich, Germany to visit Yifan in Srping of 2003. The following are some of the pictures taken then.

Outside the Alte Pinkothek - contains an outstanding collecion of paintings from the 14th C to the 18th C

Tram and Bicycle - a common mode of transport

Neues Rathaus - with it's 19th C neo-gothic design.

Inside the Fruenkirche - one of the greatest symbol of Munich. It has inspired the legend of the Devil's footprint. Apparently, the architect Jerg Von Halspach made a pact with the devil. In order to get enough money to complete this church he had to construct it without a single window. When the devil came to inspect the completed church, he saw the high Gothic windows from a distance and thought hed getteh builder's soul for sure. Once inside, he was led to a point where not one window was visible since all were hidden by pillars. Stamping his foot in rage, the Devil stomped off leaving his hoofed footprint by the entrance hall. Rebuilding the church following the war damaged meant the trick no longer works but the print remained.

SCHOLASS NYMPHENBURG
Scholass Nymphenburg was the summer residence of the Wittlesbachs. It's heart is a small Italian palace begun in 1664 for the Electresss Adelaide, who dedicated it to the pastoral pleasures of the goddess Flora and her nymphs - hence the name and the depicted scene on the ceiling fresco. Later, her son comissioned 4 more pavillions to be built.
Most interesting is in one of the rooms, King Luwig I's Gallery of Beauties which displays the most beautiful women in the king's court, including women of diferent social class.
